(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Iran is preparing to mark the 24th anniversary of the demise of the late Imam Khomeini, the Founder of the Islamic Republic, which occurs on June 4, and the anniversary of the 15th of Khordad uprising of 1963.
The demonstrations of June 5 and 6, 1963 in Iran, called the 15th of Khordad uprising, were a protest against the arrest of Imam Khomeini, who was detained after giving a speech in which he vehemently criticized Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Israel, and the United States.
The coordinating council for Islamic dissemination issued a statement on Sunday inviting the people to take part in the ceremonies which will be held to commemorate the occasions.
The statement said that the 15th of Khordad uprising stepped up the campaigns which led to the victory of Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.
It also highlighted the importance of participation in this year’s ceremonies because they will be held ahead of the June 14 presidential election.
