Shia , Sunni Scholars to Celebrate Birth of Holy Prophet (PBUH), Imam Sadeq (AS)

-Shia and Sunni Ulama (scholars) of Sistan and Baluchestan Province will attend a ceremony celebrating the birth of the holy Prophet (PBUH) and Imam Sadeq (AS).

Planned on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week, the ceremony will be held today, March 3, 2010, at Imam Jafar Sadeq (AS) Seminary School, Hojat-ol-Islam Abbass Daneshi, who heads the committee for commemorating the Unity Week told news agencies.

He said that Friday prayer leader of Zahedan Ayatollah Soleimani would deliver a lecture at the function.

“The ceremony is aimed at strengthening and promoting unity and solidarity and celebrating the auspicious occasion of birth of the holy Prophet (PBUH) and Imam Sadeq (AS),” he said.

The Unity Week was the novel idea of the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini. His farsightedness helped bridge the gap of five days between the two dates believed to be the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). According to Islamic narrations of the Sunni Muslims, the 12th of Rabi al-Awwal (on the lunar calendar) is recognized as the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) while according to Shia Muslims the auspicious birthday of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was on 17th of Rabi-al-Awwal. This year the two dates fall on February 27 and March 4.
