Vandalism at Arlington mosque investigated
|
Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), Police and fire officials in Arlington, with help from the FBI, are asking for the public's help in finding the sources of two incidents of vandalism at an Arlington mosque that occurred over the weekend.
On Friday, graffiti depicting explicit images deemed derogatory were found spray-painted on the parking lot of the Dar El-Eman Islamic Center, located in the 5500 block of Old Mansfield Road in south Arlington, Arlington police stated in a news release.
On Sunday, police and firefighters responded to a call about 1 a.m. regarding a fire in the playground of the mosque.
When officials arrived, the fire had burned itself out, but extensive damage to the playground equipment was reported.
Arson is suspected.
Police are investigating whether the two incidents are related.
Officials are looking into leads regarding a possible suspect and a vehicle, Arlington police spokeswoman Tiara Ellis Richard said Wednesday.
The Arlington police and fire departments, with help from the FBI, are looking into whether the crimes were committed based on race and/or religion, and if that is determined, it would be taken into consideration once the case is turned over to the Tarrant County district attorney's office, the release stated.
